Come Fly With Me
Bessie Coleman
Bessie Coleman was determined to be the first colored woman to fly an airplane. Follow Bessie's journey from the ground to the skies as Joanna Maddox takes you on an adventurous journey in American History. As she tells Bessie's story you will feel as if Bessie never left us on that fateful day when her plane fell from the sky. Bessie Coleman was the first black to earn an international pilot's license. This daredevil aviator was born in a one-room cabin in Atlanta, Texas. Unable to find anyone willing to teach her to fly in America Bessie saved her money, learned French in night school and traveled to Paris, France. There she received her pilot's license from the prestigious Federation Aeronautique Internationale in 1921. Program is 45 minutes and is appropriate for grades K-5/ 6-12/Adult.
